Started in 2009 by YSA and Miley Cyrus, Get Ur Good On™ is an online network for youth to support each other in their missions to do “good” in their communities. Featuring celebrity involvement, multimedia platforms, and grants and awards, it's the place for youth to learn, implement, and share innovative solutions to global issues.
“People my age are making positive contributions to their communities every single day,” said Cyrus.
“My generation is one that cares about the environment, hunger and human rights. We use the internet, videos and even music to raise awareness of these issues to our friends and family,” continued Cyrus. “I’m excited to see so much energy to do ‘good’ from teens.”
Miley Cyrus and YSA
Multi-platinum recording artist, actress and philanthropist, Miley Cyrus partnered with YSA in 2008 when she held her Sweet 16 Birthday at Disneyland, inviting ten YSA Service Stars to join the festivities. In the ensuing years, Miley and YSA have continued honoring youth for commitments to service with a variety of platforms, most notably Get Ur Good On grants, contests and Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), the world’s largest service event
In 2011, Cyrus participated in GYSD when she met 14 Make-a-Wish Kids for World Wish Day and recorded this PSA encouraging Get Ur Good On users to engage in the popular weekend-long service celebration.
Similar to her musical popularity, Cyrus’s charitable endeavors extend across the globe. This year, she traveled to Haiti with Starkey Hearing Foundation bringing hearing aids to youth in need. She also donated hundreds of personal items for Miley’s Closet which grossed more than $25,000 for Get Ur Good On. In February, The Global Action Forum honored Cyrus with the prestigious Youth Leadership Award.
